We attended the York County Fireman's Convention today. We rode down with the guys from Station 19. Had nice weather and a really great day!

Stewartstown Parade

Once again this year we loaded up the Young's from Maryland and rode int he Stewartstown Parade. Although it rained half way through no one took me up on my offer of riding up front! What troopers!

Pennsylvania Pump Primers 2011

On Friday July 8th I took the day off to get the engine ready for the annual trip to Harrisburg's riverfront park for the PA Pump Primers Muster. I had bought a new light to replace the modern light bar. Owen and I got this on the truck in the morning. In addition, we purchased some diamond plate to cover up the rust on the corners of the jump seat. Late Friday evening we mounted the recently acquired deck gun on the roof.

Bright and early Saturday morning we met the crew at the Yoe Fire Company for the ride up to the Farm Show complex.

After the ride up to Harrisburg we parked and started cleaning up.

After the Parade down to the waterfront we got everything setup and started pumping.

Lancaster Parade

Well got the old girl out and shined up for the Lancaster County Fireman's Convention Parade in Millersville, PA. My Officer Owen and I had a great time.

Spending Spree

Between the Spring Thaw in Allentown, a friend of a friend who is selling stuff and a local fire comapny selling stuff quite a few purchases over the past month.

Now to get it all mounted and on the Engine before the first parade on June 4th!

Some New Equipment

I just realized the other day that it has been 5 months since we put the old girl in storage. Soon time to go down for a visit. In the mean time I purchased two things for her. A smoke ejector and an apollo monitor with a base which will be mounted to the cab roof. Also, this year I need to get the coolant changed, fix the windshield wipers, and wrap the corners of the jump seat area with diamond plate to cover up the rust (until it can be properly fixed). Also would like to get some hand tools purchased and mounted. Lots to do!

Hershey Med NICU Reunion

We were invited to bring our fire truck to the Hershey Medical Center's NICU Reunion. We setup the truck and mine and Owen's gear for everyone to see. The kids loved trying on Owen's gear!

York County Convention

Today we attended the 98th Annual York County Convention hosted by Laurel Fire Co.

After the motorcade and awards we had an impromptu photo shoot.

Stewartstown Parade

This past Saturday was one of the hottest days of the year so far. There were heat advisories with temperatures hovering around 99 and a heat index of 105. Why not goto a parade?

Started off the day at the farm in the morning trying to figure out the air leak issue with the windshield wipers. The air leak was coming from a hole in the passenger side wiper control. Wierd that is th eone that worked. It appears to be some sort of relief valve. The main air connection comes into the passenger side control and from there feeds to the drivers side control. I disconnected the main air supply and capped it off temporarily. The only down side of doing this was I lost the air pressure gauge. But everything worked great.

Had a good time at the parade. Had a friend and his family ride with us and throw candy. Even with the heat everyone had a good time.

2010 PA Pump Primers Muster

The day started off at 7AM where we met up with Kevin Gibeny and his 1973 Mack CF Engine and the crew form the Yoe Fire Company and their 1951 FWD.

We made the short trip to the York County VoTech where we were meeting up with The Gibney's Mack CF tiller and Richard Williams and his Seagrave. As we were there it started to rain. Since the FWD is an open cab they started up the highway while we waited for the rest of our convoy.

Once we got into Harrisburg luckily for us the rain stopped. While in the staging area everyone pitched in to get the apparatus shined up for the parade. Here is Owen and I along with my old college roomates son in the staging area.

From there it was off to the parade and to the river for pumping.

Had a great day. After we finished up here we made a quick trip to Maryland to our friends for their sons 3rd birthday party.

On the ride back to the farm we developed an air leak in the drivers side windshield wiper. So we will have to try to get that fixed before the next schedule event the Stewartstown parade on July 24th.

Getting Ready for Pump Primers

After a visit to Almost Home Child Care my friend Mike and I worked on getting the engine ready for pump primers.

We took the muffler off and replaced it with a new straight pipe exhaust.
We were able to mount some of the equipment and the air packs.
I then replaced the mud flaps with the Mack mudflaps I purchased a few months ago.
Lastly we gave the bulldog a new outfit!

Visit to Almost Home Day Care

Today I took the engine to Owen's day care to show the kids. We let the older school aged kids spray the booster line.

Then Owen brought his class out to show them "his" fire truck. Everyone loved it.

Drafting

Today we headed out to pump with the engine and attempt to draft some water. Kevin Gibney met us at the farm and we headed out to a pond in Fawn Grove to set it up for drafting. I recently purchased two sections of used 6 inch lightweight hard suction. We got everything setup and I crossed my fingers as I pushed the primer handle. We waited while the 37 and a half year old former city engine started pulling water. Within 30 seconds the old bulldog started pulling water. We discharged the water out the 2 1/2 inch nozzle I purchased in Allentown. We were able to easily flow 265 GPM and had it up to 600 GPM.

2010 Lancaster County Convention Parade

Made our maiden voyage or parades for this year!

On Saturday June 5th Owen and I went to the Lancaster County Fireman's Convention Parade in Bareville/Upper Leacock Twp. We started our day by picking up the engine at the farm around 9:15.

We stopped by Yoe Fire Company to wash and shine her up. Thanks to Grant and Travis for helping get her ready (including fixing the slanted license plate!). Then on the way to the parade we stopped and put half a tank of water in the engine.

It was a long and hot ride but we had a good time. We averaged 60 MPH going out route 30. Drove 110 miles round trip. Used about 1/4 tank diesel. Here are some photos from the staging area.

Maintenance Done

Big thanks to the Gibney's for the assist today. Got the oil changed. Oil, fuel and air filters changed. And Owen got to tiller the ladder truck! Mileage is 67530.

Wax and Equipment Added

This past weekend Owen and I went down to the farm to visit the engine. We took all out loot from allentown with us. Now the pump panel looks like a real fire engine! While we were there we waxed the rest of the engine.

Sucessful Shopping Trip to Allentown

Today I headed to Allentown for the Spring Melt Fire Memorabilia Marketplace with Owen and Brian. There are always alot of pieces and parts to be had here. I had my list and my cash! Got a bunch of stuff I needed. We met Jeff there and he had some various caps and an axe mount I needed.

Can't wait to get this stuff down to the farm and get the old bulldog looking ready to pump again!

A Few Purchases

I picked up a 6 inch crome cap on ebay for $10 this week.

My friend Jeff also e-mailed that he has another 6inch cap for me.

I also picked up the 4 inch flexible pipe I need to fix the exhaust. While I was out there I also picked up 4 Mack mudflaps.

Cleaned and Back in Storage

With the nice weather in Pennsylvania this weekend I was able to get the engine cleaned up. On Friday I washed her up. I ran out of tire and wheel cleaner but what I got done on the offier's side front wheel looked promising. I was also able to fix the broken rung (temporarily) on the wooden 24 foot extension ladder. I got both ladders wiped down and put back on.

On Saturday I got the drivers side of the engine (minus the pump panel) washed. On Saturday afternoon we took her back down to the farm. The next rainy weekend we will be going down to the farm to finish waxing the roof, front and officers side.

Picked up a 6 inch crome cap on e-bay this weekend for $10 plus shipping. Started a shopping list for Allentown in 2 weeks. Then it will be time to excersie the pump and see how she does.

Hose Added

Thanks to the Chief at York Area United Fire and Lt. Lauer I secured 600' of 3 inch hose and 200' of 2 1/2 inch hose. We packed the hose on the truck last night.

Owen's 5th birthday is this weekend so we went a picked up the old girl. She started right up. Had a nice ride up from Stewartstown. Looking forward to getting her cleaned up this weekend. Also, picking up some hose for her on Sunday. Will post some pictures and video from the party.

In Storage

On Sunday we took the engine down to be sotred for the winter. It was very cold on Sunday (24 with 10 MPH winds) After a few shots of starter fluid we got the Mack running. Owen and I drove her down to Stewartstown to be stored for the winter. She is parked in front of a Mack CF tiller truck. See pics below.

Looking forward to warmer weather to get her cleaned up and parade ready!

Thanks to some of the people on FirePics.net I found out that this engine was refurbished by JC Moore in 1991. Here is a picture of it before the refurb running as Engine 7.

It's Home!

Well after a long day we got it home.

Started at 9:30 this morning out at the city sewer plant with Lt. Behler and Kevin Gibney. First it wouldn't start. We tried to jump start it. No dice. We tried to put a battery charger booster on it. No go.

So I decided that it was time to replace the 4 year old batteries. Went and bought 4 new batteries and installed them with help from the guys from the sewer department. It turned over but from sitting for 4 months and being 20 degrees outside it would not fire up after many tries.

Kevin was able to call some guys he knows and they suggested that we put some ether in the intake. Lt. Behler showed up with the starter fluid and with one little spray it fired right up.

We let it idle for a while and down Rt. 30 we go. Once we got it home Kevin said it drives and shifts real nice. So he and I went out for a little ride so I could try working the 5 speed manual transmission.

It was so much fun! Can't wait for warmer weather.

After months of bidding and negotiating with the City of York Fire Rescue I received a phone call today letting me know that I was the high bidder for their 1972 Mack CF Pumper.

Now the fun begins. Many things to do to get it insured, registered and in storage for the winter.

I will post pictures once we get it home and start on a list of what I need to get done to get it parade ready!
